Description
Release: 28-11-2025
While their 2023 debut ‘
Sunrise
’ was largely the brainchild of producer and drummer Timothy van der Holst, the band has since evolved into a tight-knit and creative unit following a series of live performances.
The One
consists of three English and three Dutch musicians, bringing together a unique blend of influences and styles. All members contributed to the music and writing process for this new album, resulting in a noticeably more diverse and layered sound.
Musically,
'Lighter than Air'
marks a clear step forward. Whereas the debut leaned heavily on the legacy of '70s progressive rock—with influences from legends like Genesis, Yes, and King Crimson—the follow-up has a more modern and contemporary sound, reminiscent of Marillion’s
Clutching at Straws
era. Still, the roots in prog tradition remain evident: epic compositions, adventurous rhythms, and virtuosic instrumental passages continue to define the band’s sound.
In addition to the familiar rock instrumentation, The One incorporates analogue synthesizers, lap steel guitar, double bass, and flute. These elements add depth and an unexpected richness to the music. With
'Lighter than Air'
, The One presents itself as a mature band with a strong and distinctive identity. Known for its sharp ear for high-quality talent, Construction Records once again provides a platform for ambitious voices within the progressive scene.

Reviews
"If you like modern progressive rock, don’t let this one get past you. It’s inventive, original and very effective. Whatever you call, this thing is great."
Music Street Journal
"'Lighter Than Air” is a fine product from (partly) our own soil, and we can never have too much of it."
Progwereld
"I must admit I liked their debut album, but this is definitely on a different level, I daresay, even pedestal. Every single track is worthy of not only praise but applause. This is quintessential neo prog at its finest."
House Of Prog (4,5/5)
"Compact tracks, beautiful combinations of rhythms, melodies, and vocals, and songs that are also captivating. These guys simply know how to write engaging and varied songs in a maximum of six minutes."
Written In Music (4/5)
"Construction Records from The Netherlands can do no wrong here in Lazland, and they return to whet our musical appetite with The One, and it is fair to say that this work is winning lots of friends. This is a good album, and I look forward to more from them."
Lazland
“Lighter Than Air” is a varied album, and the ensemble playing is its greatest strength, with the band maintaining a sense of tension right through to the end. The One is a band to watch.”
DA Music
"Virtuosity, creativity, and strong vocals are hallmarks of
The One
. The band has clearly matured and gradually developed its own distinctive, recognizable sound—one that will hopefully receive ample recognition within the prog world and beyond."
Rock Tribune (9/10)
“'Lighter Than Air' by The One is packed with wonderful symphonic rock tracks that I thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend this album to every fan of the genre, with 'How A Shadow Feels' and 'The Wolf' standing out as the absolute highlights."
New Underground Music (4,5/5)
"'Lighter Than Air' is an interesting album, and I'm certainly glad we have this kind of music and bands like The One in the Netherlands."
Rockportaal
"With 'Lighter Than Air,' The One firmly establishes itself on the prog map."
Aardschok 7,5/10
"Two years ago, Sunrise proved to be a resounding debut album in the world of progressive rock. With Lighter Than Air, The One has an album in its hands that makes the genre accessible, but on which the members can also assert their own greatness, without losing the character of the band."
White Room Reviews
"The One has arguably delivered the best Dutch prog album of 2025, because it ticks all the boxes. It's classic neo-prog through and through, incredibly melodic, with many beautiful hidden melodies that you rediscover with every listen. The musicianship and vocals are also top-notch."
MyGlobalMind 8/10
"Few bands manage to play seventies-style prog rock as authentically as the British-Dutch group The One did on their debut—without sounding like mere copies of their influences.
Lighter Than Air
continues that tradition with a more song-oriented approach."
Gitarist
"In addition to classic rock instrumentation, The One incorporates analog synthesizers, lap steel guitar, double bass, and flute—elements that give their music unexpected depth and richness. With "Lighter than Air," The One establishes itself as a mature band with a strong identity."
